Liverpool v Tottenham EFL Cup Semi Final Betting Tips

Liverpool and Tottenham will resume their EFL Cup semi-final tie on Thursday as Spurs head to Merseyside with a 1-0 aggregate lead, so here’s our Liverpool v Tottenham EFL Cup Semi Final Betting Tips. Arne Slot’s Liverpool will hope their impressive home form can spark a turnaround following a rare defeat in London during the first-leg. Tottenham head into this cup clash in the midst of an injury crisis, but Spurs have shown some glimpses of a return to form recently. This EFL Cup semi-final second leg kicks off at 8p.m. It will be shown live on ITV 1.

Form and Team News

Liverpool followed their first leg defeat at Spurs with a five match unbeaten run with four victories. The Reds also won three in a row, beating Brentford (2-0), Lille (2-1) and Ipswich (4-1) before a Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven. However, Slot’s team were back on winning form last time out, comfortably defeating Bournemouth 2-0 away. Tottenham have been in less steady form. The London side followed their 1-0 victory over Liverpool with a 0-0 FA Cup draw at Tamworth, which Spurs eventually won 3-0 after extra time. League losses against Arsenal (2-1) and Everton (3-2) followed before a 3-2 win at Hoffenheim. Despite losing 2-1 to Leicester in their following match, Ange Postecoglou’s side recovered to seal back to back wins against Elfsborg (3-0) and Brentford (2-0).

The only injury doubts for Liverpool here are defensive pair Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez, who could miss out. Tottenham have a deep injury crisis with several first-team players ruled out. Dominic, Cristian Romero, Wilson Odobert, James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson and Radu Dragusin are out.

Match Winner Bet

Spurs’ form and injury woes means they come into this semi-final second leg as the underdogs. While the North Londoners have improved recently, they still look unconvincing and have just one win in their last five domestic away matches. Tottenham also have a poor recent record at Anfield and haven’t won here since 2011. The bookies reflect the tough test facing Spurs on Thursday and Bet365 have 11/1 odds for an away win. At 13/2, provided by Betfred, a draw looks a more likely outcome. Postecoglou’s outfit will want to preserve their lead and may set up to frustrate Liverpool here. The Reds have also had a few blips recently, failing to win in four of their previous nine games, so a stalemate isn’t impossible. We do believe Liverpool can turn this tie around though and reach the EFL Cup final. Slot’s team have won 13 of their last 15 home matches and are on a three-match winning run at Anfield. It’s hard to go against Liverpool in that kind of form and Ladbrokes have 1/ 4 odds for a home win against Tottenham.

Over/Under Goals Betting

The latter stages of any major cup competition are often cagey, and we expect that trend to continue between Liverpool and Tottenham. Spurs have tightened things up recently and have seen under 3.5 goals in three consecutive matches. They have also kept consecutive clean sheets in their previous two. Liverpool have produced a lot of home goals this season, but they have had tighter results against higher-quality opposition. Slot’s team have seen under 3.5 total goals against the likes of Lille, Real Madrid, Man City, Chelsea, and Aston Villa at home this season. It may be worth getting behind a more cagey affair at Anfield on Thursday and SpreadEx have decent 6/5 returns for an under 3.5 goals scoreline.

Anytime Goalscorer Bets

We expect Liverpool and Tottenham to field strong sides at Anfield, with a place in the final at stake. Due to their injury issues, Spurs have no real choice but to play their best team. As a result, Dejan Kulusevski is expected to start in midfield. The Swedish international has been in decent away scoring form in domestic games recently. In his last four domestic matches on the road, Kulusevski has scored twice. In addition, five of his nine Spurs goals this season have come in away fixtures. Paddy Power has the best returns for Kulusevski goals at 11/2. A Liverpool player worth following in this fixture is Cody Gakpo. The Dutchman is the EL Cup’s joint top scorer this season, and he has netted four in four appearances. Gakpo has also scored four goals in his previous three outings at Anfield and is expected to lead the line against Spurs. At 31/20, Unibet’s odds for a Gakpo anytime goal looks like great value in this semi-final encounter.
