Leicester City v Manchester City Community Shield Betting Preview 07/08/2021

Leicester City v Manchester City

The 2021/22 season curtain-raiser takes place this Saturday as FA Cup winners Leicester take on Premier League champions Man City at Wembley. The match will be broadcast on ITV. Leicester were one of the over-achievers in the 2020/21 season. Brendan Rodgers led his side to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, narrowly missing out on Champions League football for this season. But his side were triumphant in the FA Cup, beating Chelsea 1-0 in the final. Man City enjoyed an incredible 2020/21 campaign. They won the Premier League, the EFL Cup and reached the Champions League final. Serial winner Pep Guardiola will want to make an impression in the Community Shield, but they face a tough test from Leicester.

Team News/Form

Leicester City have been in poor form during the pre-season. The Foxes drew 0-0 with Burton Albion before a shock 1-0 defeat to League One Wycombe Wanderers. Rodgers’ side capped a poor pre-season with a 3-3 draw against QPR. City enjoyed a better pre-season, defeating Preston 2-0 and Barnsley 4-0 at the Etihad. Both sides may not name their strongest starting line-ups for the Community Shield this weekend. The Foxes will be without James Justin, sidelined with a knee injury, and goalkeepers Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward have only recently returned to training after Euro 2020. Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden and John Stones are unlikely to feature for City. The four players have only recently returned to training after Euro 2020.

Outright Winner Odds

Looking at the outright winner odds for Leicester vs Man City, there are some interesting options across the board. Leicester are the outsiders to win, with SBK provide the best odds of 3/1. But, there may be better value on backing a draw. Leicester have drawn four of their last six cup matches against City within 90 minutes, and VBet will return good value odds of 43/15 for a stalemate. Our tip for Leicester City v Manchester City is to back the Citizens to win in 90 minutes. Guardiola’s side has won four of their last five matches against Leicester, and they have looked promising in pre-season. William Hill will return the best odds of Evens (1/1 or 2.0) for a Man City win.

Win to Nil Betting

There is good value in the win to nil market in the Community Shield that could increase the value of an outright winner bet. This week, our tip is to double up on a City win to nil against Leicester. The Citizens have won to nil in three of their last five matches against the Foxes, and Guardiola’s side have kept three clean sheets in four consecutive matches. With Leicester also shipping four goals in their last two fixtures, and odds of 29/10 with Unibet for a City win to nil represents good value in this market.

Correct Score Betting

Along with a win to nil result for Man City, there could be good value in backing a correct score for Guardiola’s side in the Community Shield final. City have won 1-0 in two of their last four matches against Leicester, and another 1-0 score line on Saturday will return odds of 9/1, provided by Bet365. But our correct score tip this week is to back City to win 2-0 in the Community Shield final. The Citizens have scored two goals or more in eight of their last 10 matches, and BetVictor‘s odds of 21/2 shows there could be some good returns on another City double this weekend.

Leicester and Man City were two of the most exciting Premier League teams to watch last season. Their Community Shield clash could provide an intriguing encounter before the domestic season kicks off next weekend.
