Houston Open Golf Betting Tips and Picks

The PGA action continues this week as a string of top players head to the Houston Open, so it’s time for our Houston Open Golf Betting Tips and Picks. Several top players took a break from the Valspar Championship last week, where Viktor Hovland edged Justin Thomas to the title. However, a more elite field will compete in Houston from Thursday as the world’s top two, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, lead a talented line-up. There are some great potential picks across the board here as the PGA’s best continue their preparations for the Masters in April. The Houston Open begins on Thursday, and it will be shown live on Sky Sports.

Form

PGA world number one Scheffler is back in action this week after a tied 20th-place finish at the Players Championship. It was the American’s second consecutive finish outside the top 10 following a tied 11th place at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Scheffler’s only win this season came in January at the World Hero Challenge, but he has failed to win any of his five competitions since. McIlroy also skipped the Valspar Championship last week, taking a short break after winning his second Players Championship title. The world number two produced a dominant display in the play-off holes against JJ Spaun to win his second title of the 2025 season. Other potential challengers to watch in Houston included 2022 winner Tony Finau and the consistent Englishman Aaron Rai.

Outright Winner Bet

After a break from the PGA action last week, the bookies like the look of either a Scheffler or McIlroy win at the Houston Open. Scheffler is a serious contender in any tournament, evidenced by his five top-20 finishes in six competitions in 2025. However, the world number one has a strong history at Memorial Park, which could work in his favour this weekend. Scheffler has finished second in two of his four appearances at the Houston Open, including last season, where he was one shot off eventual winner Stephan Jäger. Due to his decent recent history at the Houston Open, Scheffler is the leading favourite to win, and AK Bets are offering 9/2 odds here. After a confident showing at the Players Championship last time out, we can see McIlroy building winning form at the Houston Open this weekend. The Northern Irishman finished two shots ahead of the field at Sawgrass alongside Spaun before winning the play-off comfortably. McIlroy now has two wins in his last four tournaments, following victory at Pebbly Beach in February, where he won by two shots with a score of -21. Three top-four finishes this season in five tournaments show the levels McIlroy has hit. He is challenging at the top of leaderboards consistently, and we can see him going all the way in Houston. Betfred also rate McIlroy’s chances of a Houston Open triumph, as they are offering 7/1 odds for the world number two to win outright.

Top 20 Finish Betting

Potentially further down the leaderboard are two players who have found early form in 2025. Firstly, Seamus Power could be a good outsider bet for a top 20 finish. The Irishman had a disappointing Players, and didn’t make the cut but hit back to finish tied eighth at the Valspar Championship last weekend. It was Power’s second top 20 PGA finish this season, and a low outlay on SpreadEx’s 7/2 odds could produce decent returns in Houston. A safer choice in the top 20 finish market is former Houston Open winner Tony Finau. The American won here in 2022 and finished as runner-up in 2024. While Finau hasn’t hit his best form yet in 2025, he has still shown an ability to compete at the top of leaderboards. In two of his last four tournaments, Finau has finished 13th or higher. Finau has a strong recent record at Memorial Park, and we can see him finishing near the top of the leaderboard this weekend. At 13/8, LiveScore Bet has the best odds for a Finau top 20 finish.

Top English Player Bets

Englishman Aaron Rai has been in contention at several tournaments this season. He made a patchy start with a tied 15th finish at the Sentry, followed by missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. However, Rai has been much improved in recent competitions, with finishes of 14th or better in his last three tournaments. In addition, the world number 25 was the joint-best performing English player at the Players Championship two weeks ago, tying in 14th alongside compatriot Tommy Fleetwood. Rai appears to love the Houston Open, having finished tied 19th and tied 7th twice in his three appearances at Memorial Park. At 6/5, Boylesports has Rai as the leading favourite to finish at the Houston Open as the best-performing English player.
